In ancient times essential oils were mankind’s first medicine. There are records in Egyptian hieroglyphics and Chinese manuscripts. Priests and physicians have been using essential oils for thousands of years. Essential Oils were used in the embalming process in Egypt. Oils that were well-preserved were found in alabaster jars in King Tut’s tomb.

In the Bible there are 188 references to essential oils . Frankincense, myrrh, rosemary, and hyssop and spikenard were a few of the ones mentioned.

Essential oils can be described as volatile liquids that are distilled from plant parts which include seeds, bark, leaves, stems, roots,and flowers. The highest quality oils are classified as grade-A essential oils. The chemical constituents of an oil are one of the most important factors in determining their quality.. Obtaining the purest essential oils is of utmost importance when using them for healing.

Essential oils that are of a very high quality vibrate at a high frequency when measured scientifically. Grade A essential oils range anywhere from 52-320 megahertz(MHZ) A healthy human body during the daytime measures 62-68 megahertz(MHZ). One can see that grade A essential oils generally vibrate at a higher level than the human body. Grade A essential oils have the ability to raise the frequency in the human body within minutes. High levels of sesquiterpenes, found in some essentials oils allow them to cross the blood brain barrier, thus increasing the amount of oxygen in the limbic system of the brain, particularly around the pineal and pituitary glands. This in turn leads to an increase in secretions of antibodies, endorphins, and neurotransmitters.

There are many benefits reaped from using essential oils either alone or in a Reiki treatment. Some of these are the following.: they detoxify the cells and blood in the body, cross the blood brain barrier enabling them to be effective in the treatment of Alzeimer’s disease, Lou Gehrig’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis, are antibacterial and antioxidant, regenerate and oxygenate immune defense properties of the human being.

There are many ways to use essential oils. Some of these are that they may be applied on a piece of cloth, in a bath, during a massage, through diffusers or via direct application on the skin.

One area where one has to use caution regarding the use of essential oils is during pregnancy and birth. One should always ask their practitioner in regard to them for although some can be very supportive during both pregnancy and the birth itself certain oils should be avoided because they might raise your blood pressure or have other affects. A general rule is that you should avoid direct contact with Essentials oils until at least the sixth month and then only under the supervision of a qualified professional therapist.

Most essential oils of high quality have an average shelf life of approximately two years. They should not be placed in the sunlight for this causes deterioration. Also, keep them in a cool, dark place.
